The Investigations Section is responsible for assisting the Patrol Section by following up on major crimes, vice, organized crime, and drug-related complaints. The detectives handle long-term and/or complex investigations. They are tasked with the identification, apprehension, and prosecution of criminal offenders. Cases investigated include burglaries and major theft, fraud, assaults, and sex crimes. The Investigations Section also performs background checks for potential hires.
The detectives frequently interact with surrounding law enforcement agencies when conducting investigations. Additionally, they have rendered technical and manpower assistance to agencies such as the FBI, Secret Service, and U.S. Customs. The members of the section also conduct training for local businesses in crime prevention to include a bi-annual Liquor Establishment Employee Training (L.E.E.T).
