Renovations to Plant
The original plant was constructed in 1950 as a 3.0 million gallon per day (MGD) plant. In 1968 the treatment plant capacity was expanded to 6 MGD with the construction of additional rapid sand filters and softening clarifiers.
All of these improvements increase water quality, reliability, and sustainability to provide a better product to our customers.
A 170 million gallon above ground reservoir was constructed in 1990 as an alternative to the river source in times of poor raw water quality. The reservoir capacity holds approximately 45 days of high raw water quality for the plant to draw from.
2000 to 2004
In 2000 an activated carbon filtration plant was constructed to improve the taste and odor of the finished water. This state of the art filtration removes a variety of contaminants and as a result very high quality drinking water.
A new pumping station with a 12 MGD capacity and a 1 million gallon finished water storage basin were completed and put on line in 2004.
2009 to 2012
During 2009 to 2010, a 32 MGD river pumping station was constructed, which fills the reservoir from the river.
Between 2011 and 2012, the 3 MGD micro filtration/reverse osmosis systems were installed.
2015 to Present Day
A pumping station from the reservoir to the micro filtration/reverse osmosis system was installed during 2015 and 2016. With this station the conventional and membrane systems have their own feed intake with some redundancy also provided. An on site automatic electric generation transfer switch was also completed.
During 2016 and 2017, the fluoride building and rapid sand filters rebuild were completed. In 2018, 2.01 billion gallons of drinking water were treated. A new Fluoride Building and Electric Automatic Transfer Building were constructed. A rebuild of six Rapid Sand Filters and the addition of two Microfiltration Trains to the Membrane Treatment System are nearing completion. This should be completed in early 2020. With this construction, our rated capacity will be 10.03 MGD in the winter and 10.7 MGD during the summer.
